A Wunderkammer is a room of wondrous things, a chamber containing objects that are noteworthy for their beauty, or their rarity, or their curious nature. The architectural wunderkammer is an attempt to realize an architecture that reflects the fact that we are what we own. The wunderkammer should contain a collection of architectural spaces that will stage a cultural effervescence.
The Wunderkammer sits right on the edge of the mountain and shares its boundary condition by addressing both sides in very different ways. The south end rests on the rock while the north ends reaches for the sky. As the building spans the site it creates an exterior open space, an ideal place for public and social communion. This dynamic impulse modulates the interior of the building that can be described in three tempos.
The center part of the building is the mediator. It acts as a pivot point that joins interior and exterior and that withholds the unity of the building on both vertical and horizontal axis. The third part of the building connects with the sky. On top of the building is a roof terrace that offers a bright contemplative space with a view to the nearby lake.
